29. Global Running Day and why you should train for a 5k


We recorded Tuesday but had a snafu that kept it from posting till Wednesday!

Today we talked about training for a 5k and how short distance training will make you better in the longer distances.

We talked about our new-found love of biking as cross-training!

And we went on a deep dive into energy availability and (especially) female runners. We read a few excerpts from Lauren Fleshman’s book Good For a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man’s World. We also discussed a study about pro soccer players that found that 88(!) percent of the female athletes were not eating enough calories to meet their energy needs. We need often need more fuel than we are getting, especially when we are in a training cycle or even when we underestimate the caloric needs of our cross-training and rest/recovery days. So go get a snack!
